Bi-discs
Bi-discs are very modern looking stone sculptures, but have actually been around for more than 6000 years! Originally from China, these discs used to be made from precious jade and were sometimes beautifully decorated with engravings. Their use and function were probably religious as they are often found in tombs as burial gifts, but their original meaning is lost in history. Throughout the centuries, bi-discs were considered status symbols and had cermonial functions at the Chinese Emperor's court. Defeated warlords were required to hand over jade bi-discs at their surrender. Nowadays, we consider the round, simple shape and decorative colours of bi-disc attractive as unique interior decoration.
