A bamboo pole would be interred in the hole son top and then hoisted up the shoulders of two carriers. These would follow the sedan chair which transported the bride to her new family. Her mother-in-law would check the contents on arrival (the dowry in form of clothes and other objects). This would set the tone for the future relationship between the two women.
