Beautiful, antique carved panel with calligraphy in classical Chinese characters, from the Qing dynasty (1644-1911), in red, black and gold. We made this board into a low coffee table that will certainly become a centrepiece in any room.
These wooden signs were given as tokens of honour for a person who did something significant for the community or for a respected person’s birthday. The large characters are always auspicious wishes for that person’s health and prosperity. The sign would have been hung in that person’s office or prominently displayed in an entrance hall. The smaller characters spell out the names of the gift’s sponsors.
