Antiquated pots
Many of our newly made and oversized pots are shaped by hand and fired in traditional fire kilns. (Curious about this traditional way of pottery making? Read our blog post about traditional kilns here!) The moulding and application of the glazing by hand create the variations in shape and colour that add to the individuality of each pot. Even the placement in the kiln and the heat of the fire play a big part in the final colouring of the pot!

Reproduction pottery
Sometimes shapes and aesthetics will last through the ages!
One great example are our newly made Han Repro Pots. These reproduction pots are inspired by ancient Chinese ritual vessels, called Hu. Thousands of years ago, a Hu vase would have been cast in bronze, heavily decorated, and used as ritual wine vessels. During the Han dynasty (whose emperors ruled 2000 years ago) these Hu pots were made from earthenware and were used in daily life and as burials gifts.
The production of Hu vases continued throughout Chinese history. You can see the typical curving pear-shape reflected in porcelain Ming vases and elegant Song pots. Our reproduction pots are inspired by the simple Hu vases from the Han dynasty and reproduced in the same kind of unglazed earthenware as has been used 2000 years ago!
