Tang dynasty (618–907 AD)

Small earthenware ‘Fat Lady’ statue from the Tang dynasty.
This graceful statue of a royal court lady has a typical Tang dynasty hairstyle and airy robes which became popular when plumpness in women became a beauty standard. This statue therefore differs from other Tang statues which often depict slender court ladies. Made from terracotta with the remains of painted features and robes still visible.
